How Do I Choose a Good Esthetician in Green Valley?
Choosing an esthetician is personal. You're trusting someone with your skin, your concerns, and sometimes the things you're a little self-conscious about. So finding the right person should involve more than scrolling through a service menu or choosing whoever offers the latest treatment.
Here are a few things I think everyone should look for.
They should listen before they recommend.
Your skin has a history. What are you using at home? What's bothering you? Is your skin sensitive? What have you tried before? What worked? What definitely didn't?
A good esthetician should want to understand all of that before deciding what your skin needs.
Your treatment should fit your skin.
Not everyone needs the same facial, peel, product or routine.
Skin changes with age, climate, medications, lifestyle, sun exposure and a hundred other little things. Here in Southern Arizona, our dry climate and intense sun add another layer to the conversation.
The goal isn't to give everyone the same treatment. It's to figure out what makes sense for the person in front of you.
You should understand what they're doing.
Skincare can get complicated quickly. I don't think you should leave an appointment wondering what just happened to your face.
Your esthetician should be able to explain what they're recommending, why they're recommending it, what you can realistically expect and how to care for your skin afterward.
And you should always feel comfortable asking questions.
More isn't always better.
Sometimes the best recommendation is a treatment. Sometimes it's changing something you're doing at home.
And sometimes it's not doing something at all. A good esthetician shouldn't make you feel like you need every treatment on the menu or a shelf full of products to have healthy skin.
You should feel comfortable being yourself.
This one matters to me. Skin is personal. Acne, aging, pigmentation, sensitivity, facial hair, scars and other changes can affect how people feel about themselves.
You should never feel judged when you're sitting in an esthetician's chair. You should feel listened to, comfortable and cared for.
