Does Dermaplaning Make Hair Grow Back Thicker?

Ah, the peach fuzz question.

If you’ve considered dermaplaning, there’s a decent chance you’ve also had this thought:

Wait. If you remove the hair from my face, is it going to grow back thicker?

Short answer: No. Dermaplaning does not make facial hair grow back thicker or darker.

And no, we’re not secretly setting you up for a beard.

What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a professional exfoliation technique that uses a specialized blade to gently remove surface buildup and fine facial hair.

That fine hair is known as vellus hair.

We generally call it peach fuzz because we’re fun like that.

Removing surface buildup and fine hair can leave skin feeling smoother and create a fresh surface for skincare and makeup.

Why doesn’t dermaplaning make hair grow back thicker?

Dermaplaning removes the hair at the surface. It doesn’t change the structure of the hair follicle underneath your skin.

Hair can sometimes feel different as it grows back because it was cut across rather than naturally tapered at the end.

That doesn’t mean the hair itself has become thicker.

Your peach fuzz remains peach fuzz. Everybody relax.

What are the benefits of dermaplaning?

Two of the big reasons people choose dermaplaning are exfoliation and smoother-feeling skin.

Removing surface buildup and fine facial hair creates a smoother surface, which can also make makeup application feel different.

Foundation lovers tend to appreciate that.

So do people who spend the next 24 hours touching their cheeks and saying, “Ooooh.” We don’t judge.

Is dermaplaning the same as a facial?

Not exactly.

Dermaplaning is an exfoliation technique. It can be offered as its own treatment or incorporated into a facial.

At The Spot, Dermaplane is available as a 30-minute Specialty Facial Treatment for $45.

Dermaplaning is also incorporated into our On the Go Facial, which is $80+ for 45 minutes.

Which route makes sense depends on what else you want from your appointment.

Is dermaplaning right for everyone?

Not necessarily.

Like any professional treatment, dermaplaning should make sense for the skin we’re working with.

If you aren’t sure whether it’s appropriate for your skin, ask.

Your face deserves a slightly better decision-making process than I saw a Reel.
